Orvance | Package Design, Illustration & Animation | Role: Contractor | Agency: Assemble
A durable and discreet alternative to dental wax.

OrVance develops innovative solutions to pain associated with orthodontics.
Background
Orvance’s proprietary moisture-activated adhesive is used in their flagship product OrthoDots, which serve as a stronger, clearer, and smoother alternative to dental wax.
The ask for packaging came as Orvance was seeking to get OrthoDots on drugstore shelves internationally. I was presented with intial package design intended for in-office use. Investors were concerned that the minimal design and simple illustrations wouldn’t inspire confidence on the consumer-facing side.
I was asked to redesign the packaging to feel more at home on the shelves at a drug store like CVS, while staying in line with their existing, clinical branding.
Original in-office package design
I went to the drugstore to get a better idea of what parallel commercial medical products were doing.
I discovered the key elements missing from the initial packaging were detailed product renderings and curves or gradients to indicate ‘performance’.
Rendering
While I’m not well-versed in 3D rendering software yet, I am proficient in digital painting. So I used that skillset instead to showcase the soft, futuristic gummy patch adhering snugly to a bracket.
Animation
They also asked me to make a few cute, kid-friendly, explainer gifs to use on their social. It was my first time figuring out how to animate, and I had a great time.
